A Set of Eight Georg Jensen Acorn Pattern Cake Knives and Forks Made in Denmark Imported into Great Britain Acorn Pattern was designed by Johan Rohde for the Jensen firm and introduced in 1915. This pattern has proved so popular over the years that is is still in production today. This is a set of eight cake knives and forks, all of the same pattern. Within the set t are various dates of importation into Great Britain. The set tfore consists of the following: FORKS: Three (3) forks are 1936 (London date letter is a block capital A). These forks also bear the Jensen maker's mark, GJ in a square, which was in use from 1933-44. Below this is "Sterling Denmark", then "G.J Ld", a mark used for items sold in Jensen's London retail shop. Following this, t is an oval punch with a "u" at the centre. This is the British importation mark. Next, ".925" is sterling purity silver, then finally the date letter A, for 1936. Three (3) forks are 1937 (London date letter is a block capital B). The remaining marks are as above. One fork is 1954 (London date letter is a block capital T). The Jensen maker's mark has changed to the full name "Georg" over "Jensen" surrounded by an oval formed of dots. The remainder of the marks are as above. One fork is 1971 (London date letter is a lower case q). The remaining marks are as above. KNIVES: ALL KNIVES HAVE SILVER HANDLES AND STAINLESS STEEL BLADES One knife is 1936 (as above: A, with the London shop retail mark and "Sterling Denmark" on the reverse of the collar.) Six knives are 1937 (as above: B), all other marks as above. One knife bears the Jensen makers mark in use in the post 1945 period ("Georg" over "Jensen" surrounded by an oval formed of dots), but no British import marks or date letters. CONDITION: Very nice, with a pleasing patina from careful use. T is no erosion of the details of the pattern. LENGTH: FORKS: 5 5/8 inches (14.3cm) KNIVES: 6 3/4 inches (17cm) TOTAL WEIGHT: 15 Troy ounces. (466 g.)
