Among several great pieces of American glass at auction this week, is a wonderful jug or pitcher by George Duncan and Sons circa 1880s. The pattern is in a thumbprint or polka dot style and It is in the lovely 'Rubina' color which presents as a cross between cranberry and ruby red. The jug has an applied shell handle and a capacity of approximately 80 ounces filled to about 2 inches below the rim. Although other companies made the polka dot style pattern, the handle and the way it is applied, indicates a George Duncan & Sons manufacture. A wonderful piece in excellent condition. A special thanks to the ebayer that informed me in on the difference between Hobbs Brockunier handles and George Duncan & Sons handles. Condition: Excellent. Remarkably good. Some faint wear and other wear at the base (see photos).
