This is a framed (15x27) , signed program of George Gershwin's last New York (Lewisohn Stadium with the Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra) appearance as a pianist. The dates of the concert, July 9 and 10, 1936 are almost exactly one year before his tragic death on July 11, 1937. On the program he performed both his Rhapsody in Blue as well as his Concerto in F. The program is boldly signed in black fountain pen. Interestingly the program was also very lightly signed by the French/American coloratura Lily Pons. (It's not terribly noticeable unless you are close to the item.) She was not a performer on the program but was a friend of Gershwin and perhaps accompanied him to the concert. (Gershwin was in the process of writing a piece of music dedicated to her when he died in 1937. The incomplete sketch was found among Gershwin's papers after his death and was eventually revived and completed by Michael Tilson Thomas and given the simple title 'For Lily Pons'.) The program is handsomely framed along with an 8 x 10 photo of Mr. Gershwin, using only conversation methods such as acid free materials and UV protective glass. The program itself is in very fine condition. It is thirty pages and is full of interesting ads and articles. (Notice the ad on the top of the signature page. The Wurlitzer Company is offering a Gagliano violin for $900!) A facsimile of the program is attached to the back of the frame so one may peruse the program without removing it from the framing. This would make a great addition to any Gershwin collection. The item will be insured and shipped certified mail. Because of the size of the item, shipping will be $30 for the USA; however if you are only interested in the item without the frame, I'll disassemble it and ship the program for free.
