George Low "Signature" Tom Stewart Wood Shaft Mashie Baltusrol History Must See

This wood shaft club belonged to an early Baltusrol member whose last name was Newkirk. A family member of his gave the club to Paul J. Dailey a PGA Pro who worked as an assistant under Bob Ross at Baltusrol in the early 80's and was working there during the ' 80 U.S. Open. Paul gave me the club (I Collect Clubs) as a gift for a favor I did him in 1995. According to Paul the Newkirk family member said that the man (I believe his name was Eugene Newkirk) was playing golf with George Low at Baltusrol and broke the shaft on his Mashie. George gave him his own Mashie (this one) to use right out of his bag , and Eugene promptly holed the shot. Newkirk was so ecstatic that Low gave him the club. Newkirk apparently treasured the club and loved to tell the story of his hole out. About all I know collector-wise, is that every George Low club I have seen of that era from Baltusrol has George Low in block letters, and not the signature George Low. And, in as much as Paul was "given" the club at Baltusrol, and it wasn't "sold" to him by the family member leads me to believe that this club did belong to George Low, and was likely made for him personally. Those of you who are Low collectors, Stewart or Baltusrol collectors will know more the likelihood than I do. Club is about 38 1/2"s long. Shaft is overall pretty straight.
