What a find !!!! I bought this clock thinking that it was an old Gilbert (it is a Gilbert case ,see pictures) but after I got it home and took the dial off I found that it has a George B. Owen works ??Well just to be honest I had never heard of ole George but with a little time on the web I found that He was the General Manager of Gilbert Clock Works back in the 1800,s and that he formed an independent clock company at Winsted CT.about 1875 known as George B. Owen & Company.Clocks by that Co.had cases designed by Owen and most of the time works by Gilbert but this one is just the opposite with works marked George B. Owen in the Gilbert case .The works are marked patented 1879 and that is the same year that the Owen Co. burned ??? Mummm?? what do You think ?? ole George was making both cases and works in '79 until the fire ??? The clock is about 20 1/4" tall and 12 1/4" wide at the base .It runs and keeps good time . It chimes the hour on the hour but I have never heard it strike on the 1/2 hour and don't know if it was made to or not ??? Please look close at all pictures and You can see that there is 1 place the wood has been patched ,it really does not look as bad as the picture shows but I wanted You to know it was there, The inside ring of the dial looks new but the out side may be the original ??
