This auction is for an early George W. Shiebler sterling silver sardine server, pattern 2551. It is an early server, circa 1880, New York, NY. It is marked on the underside with the winged "S", "sterling" "2551".It is approx. 6 1/8"long , and weighs 55.51g (1.7850 ozt).It is an ornate piece, with a cast octopus on the blade, and features a naturalistic shaft overlaid with aquatic plants and cast fish. It has some fine surface scratches, consistent with a well cared for serving piece, and is in superb overall condition.The blade shows a faint gold wash both on the front and reverse. The tines are uniform, and t does not appear to have been any damage or repairs to this item. An outstanding and significant Shiebler piece, almost certainly to appreciate further.
