Funeral of George Washington TWO rare woodcut sketches of coffin!!
100% ORIGINAL; Dec 31, 1799 Massachusetts Mercury Newspaper This is one absolutely fantastic historic newspaper featuring a report and memorial on the funeral of George Washington, highlighted by two rare woodcut sketches of his coffin! Finding a newspaper with the sketches of his coffin is very rare. Many papers simply printed the order of procession, or said "corpse." This prints two dramatic sketches of the coffin! The other key aspect is that this is a 1799 newspaper. Condition: Strong rag condition...will last nearly forever! This paper has several small archival mends, three archival repairs, and two portions of missing text due to paper loss. One of the missing text hits a portion of a memorial towards Washington. The other missing portion is a rectangle cut out on page 3(as can be seen in the scan). The paper is very pliable and strong rag content. The repairs consist of replacing some missing text or wear holes in the paper. Those two portions cover a part of the Washington report, though none of them touch the key portion with the funeral casket sketches. The paper has some wrinkling. I pictured the key parts of the repairs and/or paper loss. The paper is in collectible condition, and the key is that the woodcut sketches are in very nice shape. Complete Newspaper! Historic newspapers are a fascinating collectible. Many people know of the 20th century newspapers with topics from WWII w huge headlines reported Pearl Harbor, the death of Adolf Hitler, Hiroshima, D-Day, and so many other 20th century events. People have seen those, and they are quite striking. What is not known to many people is that American newspapers from the beginning of our country are still around! Yes, t are still American newspapers around from the early colonial 1700's through the Civil War, the death of Abraham Lincoln, the Custer Massacre, and the Indian Wars with Geronimo and Sitting Bull. Those topics can all be found in original newspapers! I accept Paypal. I only accept confirmed addresses from Paypal. U.S. bidders only. Shipping is free!
