Hello, For your consideration is a one piece military button I found metal detecting earlier this year. The front has a great looking spread winged eagle clutching a branch. A sheild is off to his side. "CADET" stands above the eagle, "GMI" below. The button measures approx. 18mm. It maintains a lot of it's original gilt, I would estimate 90%+. The back has two concentric dot rings. The shank is slightly bent. The button is listed in Albert's button book as SU 126 G M I Cadet, Georgia Military Insitute CS 273. I believe this is a pre-Civil War button. These buttons are tough to find in any shape. I am thinking you would be hard pressed to find one better than this. Email if you have any questions. Dave Hello, I have had several inquiries about the size of the button. I called my buddies and nobody has a micrometer or calipers. In the description I said "approximately 18mm". I used a box end wrench. It will not fit into an 18mm wrench, and it is sloppy in a 19mm wrench. So, it is somew between these two sizes. I guess people are worried that it may be reproduction, and sizing is a good determination. I would like to offer a guarantee to anyone afraid of bidding thinking t is a chance that it could be a reproduction. If you win and honestly believe it is a repro after inspecting it, ship it back within a week of receiving it, read more
