Fine Georgian Mahogany Knife Box A nice Georgian knife box with a serpentine and shaped frieze. The box has boxwood and ebony stringing around the edge, there is also inlay on the underside of the lid. The boxwood and ebony stringing continues down the front flutes of the box. The interior of the box has been converted into a storage area for stationary whilst still retaining some of the original knife rests – see photos. The knife has a small metal handle on the top to raise the lid. A really nice item with a small amount of restoration would look fantastic Condition Report – The box as mentioned above would benefit from a small amount or restoration to be returned to top class condition. There is some cracking to areas of the veneer around the box. A small piece of stringing is missing on the lid approx. 2cm, a crack between side and top of the lid on the RHS of the box. A small piece of edge moulding on the underside of the lid on the LHS from the front. Front escutcheon has been replaced with a square of veneer. There is no key with the box. A gap between lid and sides when closed The box has the normal marks on under the polish which is all part of the patina.
