Date pre 1784 Length 6 inches (15.2cms) Weight 29.5 grams Marks Lion Passant, Maker's mark Maker John Lambe Condition no damage or repairs but some dirty� marks Monogram or crest none - but may have had one removed� in the past � � � General Information: John Lambe is noted for his high� quality silver-ware and was an important maker of the period. � He was apprenticed to Ebenezer Croker, as was Thomas Chawner. � His first recorded mark was 8th February 1774 as a spoon-maker� although it is assumed he entered a mark before this which will� have been recorded in the missing registers. His latest mark� was registered on 17th October 1791 as a plate-worker. Heal� records him as working only until 1796. The latest pair of� tongs that can be definitely attributed to him are dated� 1793/94. After this there are sugar tongs marked with an “IL”� maker’s mark, but all of these maker’s marks are in a� rectangular punch. John Lambe did switch to using a rectangular� punch in 1791 but there were also other makers using a similar� punch at the same time so we cannot be certain.
