GEOSEC Geological Thin Section Microscope Slide Ankaramite, La Palma Thin Section Microscope Slide of rock from La Palma, Canary Islands. This is a slide of Ankaramite. a type of lava rich in pyroxene. The pyroxene is a pink titanium rich variety of augite, and occurs as perfectly shaped zoned phenocrysts and in the matrix also. Olivine is present as phenocrysts and ilmenite. It is interesting to compare the matrix with the numerous inclusions of matrix in the augite phenocrysts, they are different, which must mean that the magma evolved between the start of the crystallisation and that present when erupted/emplaced.Some fragmentation of the phenocrysts, this is quite usual in volcanic rocksA sample of the rock from which the slide was cut is included, if available at time of sale. The description is provided as a guide as to what to expect, but buyers should identify the rock type and minerals for themselves. Slides are prepared with the greatest of care, ground to the correct thickness, and covered with a glass cover slip. However if you are not satisfied with any slide I will refund the purchase price (except the postage) if you return the slide within 7 daysSlides listed on this site are new, mostly made within a day or two of being listed.
