Geosec Thin section microscope slide Cancrinite Syenite Kola Peninsular Russia. This is a thin section of a rare rock from the Khibiny Area of the Kola Peninsular. This area is the home to many very special minerals, formed by the intrusion of an alkali syenite into existing pre-cambrian rocks. Instead of attempting a description I suggest viewing the following excellent web page on the area; /kola/khibiny.htm.This slide contains cancrinite, nepheline, and feldspar. Cancrinite is often present in nepheline syenites, but usually in very small amounts. In this slide it occupies about a third of the slide, and is easily identified by it's bright colours in xpl. It is a useful mineral to be able to identify as it is usually associated with nepheline, which is not always easy to identify. Small amount of aegirineaugite also presentVERY little of this material, so there will only be a very few slides, and probably no hand sample. The description is provided as a guide as to what to expect, but buyers should identify the rock type and minerals for themselves. Some features will require a polarising microscope to view. Slides are prepared with the greatest of care, ground to the correct thickness, and covered with a glass cover slip. However if you are not satisfied with any slide I will refund the purchase price (except the postage) if you read more
