DESCRIPTION : This is an STUPENDOUS sterling silver clamper cuff bracelet that was handwrought in Taxco, Mexico, circa 1950's, by renowned silver maestro, GERARDO LOPEZ. GERARDO LOPEZ was a very talented and accomplished silver maestro in Taxco. Maestro Lopez's jewelry is sought by collectors worldwide and is highly collectible. This bracelet is masterfully crafted in a sophisticated feminine design. The silver repousse work is SPECTACULAR with free flowing scroll flourishes and a multitude of silver bead accents ~ these beads were made by hand and placed on the bracelet one by one ~ an extremely tedious task requiring the skill and expertise of a true Taxco maestro, GERARDO LOPEZ! The recesses of designs are heavily oxidized which lends depth and dimension to this piece ~ the silver has a gorgeous rich patina. The style of this bracelet is known as a clamper cuff ~ if you pull the two front pieces apart and let go, it "clamps" shut ~ the hinge is tight and functions perfectly. This clamper is eternally elegant ~ crafted with intricate, artistic details that are rarely seen so perfectly executed in vintage Mexican jewelry. This is a GERARDO LOPEZ art-to-wear masterpiece ~ signed and fully hallmarked ~ a grand asset to any vintage Taxco silver collection ~ museum, collector, heirloom quality ~ SIMPLY, THE BEST!!! SIZE: Inside circumference when closed is 7" but will fit larger due to hinged design, width in front is 3-3/4", width in back is 3/4", and weight is 77 grams. CONDITION : Superior vintage condition ~ no dings/dents to silverwork ~ no damage noted ~ just about PERFECT! HALLMARKS : "STERLING, 925, LOPEZ, TAXCO, HECHO EN MEXICO" and the Eagle 23 assay mark. GERARDO LOPEZ and this hallmark (photo L-43) are shown on pages 95-96 of Bille Hougart's highly respected source book, The Little Book of Mexican Silver Trade and Hallmarks (2006 edition). Mr. Hougart indicates that Maestro Lopez began using this particular hallmark in 1955.
