Gerardo Lopez Taxco Necklace Description: This piece just takes my breath away! An amazing vintage necklace by master silversmith, Gerardo Lopez. Truly an heirloom for your collection and one that will be passed on for decades. This wonderful sterling silver necklace is by Gerardo Lopez. It is done in sterling silver and copper (the photos make the faces look brassy, but they are copper and are a light red brown). The necklace has 5 Aztec warrior pendants, each featuring the copper face and a thick sterling headdress. The relief areas in the headdresses are purposefully oxidized to really show off this design. The loops going back to the hook clasp are thick and hand formed. This is just a stunning piece, my photos surely don't do this one justice. It's truly a beauty. Circa 1950. Lopez is featured in Morrill and Berk's "must have" reference book, titled Mexican Silver . They go on to say that Lopez had a large shop and taller in Taxco during the 50's and his shop was known as being one of the best silver shops in Taxco. Hougart also features Lopez on pages 95 - 96 of The Little Book of Mexican Silver Trade and Hallmarks , new revised edition. Lopez's bracelets and necklaces are bringing 100's of dollars on Ebay.
