DETAILS... Here is an awesome old Gerber from days goneby. A Gerber TAC II tactical/ survival /combat / fighting / self defense / boot knife with a locking black molded Zytel sheath equipped with a thumb button quick release. Rare knife. Gerber no longer makes this puppy. This is a Gerber Vintage TAC II Military Survival Knife with the locking sheath. The total length of the knife is 11.25" and the blade itself is 6" long and double edged. Steel is 13C26 (razor blade steel); all TAC Is and TAC IIs were made of this steel. The handles on TAC IIs are molded Zytel, full-hidden-tang. Has nice sharp partial serrations (half-serrated blade). Zytel molded handle and quick-release button sheath with ambidextrous lock. The partial serrations ravage rope or fibrous materials with ease. The Tac II was allowed for pilots and paratroopers because it had two fasteners, but was originally designed for covert ops. Zytel is extremely popular for knife handles, including knives made by Gerber, Benchmade and SOG, because it is extremely light-weight; it weighs less than one-fourth as much as steel. Zytel is one of the most popular materials for knife handles because it doesn’t expand or contract in heat or cold, and it won’t become scratched or discolored with heavy use. Zytel naturally has a slightly textured surface, but knife companies will usually add more texture to help gripping and holding. Knife is stamped GERBER and etched TAC II on one side and serial number A07694 on the other. It has been carried and used but it is in good, used condition. The blade has a few scuffs and light scratches from typical use. The tip of this one was torqued at some point, but it has been straightened out really well--check the pics and you will see a slight bit of imperfection . The upper nylon portion of the sheath is set up for the old school alice clip system and can be removed from the sheath if desired to stream line things a little. The belt loop alone accepts up to a 2" belt and can be used without the upper nylon portion. It is a heavy duty set up and it will last. The sheath and release are fully functionally and in great condition. This thing is a handful and that sheath and release are the bomb for vertical upside down carry—especially on an old H harness! I see very few of these good old blades. She is sweet, she is solid, she is slick, and she is headed your way when you hit buy it now!. It is just going to be worth more this time next year and will trade readily for food in the impending zombie apocalypse—so tell the wife it is just an investment! Thanks for reading and looking.
