We have extensively tested this torch in 'field conditions' before making the decision to sell it. It has been sold to professional soldiers for several years. Their assessment of this light is that it is ‘spot on’ This is the latest version of the Gerber Recon light incorporating LED [light emitting diode] technology and more colour filters than the original. It fits in to the palm of your hand, uses a single AA battery, offers 4 different colours of light, 'O' ring seal on the screw base, pocket/belt clip and a lanyard hole on the base cap large enough for para cord to pass through. The torch is switched on and off by turning the base clockwise for ON and anti-clockwise for OFF. Additionally, we found that you can create a momentary switch by starting with the torch switched ON. Slowly turn the base anti-clockwise until the light goes off. Do not turn the base any further than is required to extinguish the light. Then press the base. You will find that the light illuminates as long as pressure is applied to the base and extinguishes immediately pressure is removed. This 'momentary switch' was found to be particularly useful in tactical situations where you may have to kill the light instantly. There was no fumbling - simply take your finger off the end cap and the light went off instantly. A unique and very usual feature is that you can select the red filter in total darkness by touch. This prevents accidentally showing a white light in tactical conditions. This is achieved because there is a flat face on the edge of the revolving filter ring at the front of the torch. When the filter ring is turned until this flat face matches up to a similar flat surface on the torch body the red filter is engaged. This is easily identified with the finger tip. Many torches offer a red filter. Few offer instant selection of four different colours by turning the front 'dial' through 90 degrees. This is so simple. There are no loose parts to attach or loose - no separate filters or filter heads. This is the ultimate small hand torch for military use. It will fit in to the palm of your hand, the smallest pocket, clip to P.L.C.E webbing or sit in the corner of your bergan. The matt black aluminium construction makes it a very robust bit of kit. Furthermore, LED's - light emitting diodes can also take a massive amount of punishment. They do not burn out or fail like conventional torch bulbs. LED's are less vulnerable to impact damage if you drop the torch. LED's have a lifespan of 100,000 hours [11 years].
