A five piece pewter tea set by the Jugendstil frim of Gerhardi & Co., a company discuessed at length in the catalogue, "Modern Art Of Metalwork. State Museum of Art nouveau, Art Deco and Functionalims ( 1889-1939), Berlin." The Brohan Museum. Perhaps Gerhardi & Co.'s most famous designer was Albin Muller. Often his designs are especially mareked with his artist mark. The tray is unmarked, and I do not believe it was designed for the set since the motifs are very different. The creamer is marked Gerhardi's standard mark as will be seen in the photo. Two other pieces, the coffee pot and the sugar box, are marked "A. Brogniez" and t is a reference to this mark or name in the Brohan catalogue. The three pieces, however, all have the same model number, I.E. "1746;" so I have no doubt that they were all made by the Gerhardi firm. The tea pot is unmarked, but again, it is clearly a product of the same firm and was produced during the same time period.I suspect the set may be fairly early, becasue the design motifs very much reflect the Japanese style which swept Europe in the late 19th century. T is a sun either rising or settng in the ocean, a bonsai tree, and lots of what I believe is mistletoe with berries, a popular theme for Art Nouveau artists. The tray measures Sixteen & One-Half [ 16.50 ] inches X Eleven & One-Half [ 11.50 ] inches.
