STEIN

This is what I believe to be a German Beer Stein, # 228 9 printed on bottom and side of stein. GT is also on the side of the stein. Measuring 8 3/4" tall and 4" across the bottom, 0.3L is marked on the top of the ceramic portion of the stein next to the handle. Cobalt blue is the background of the central design with beige pottery and darker brown accents. On the center body of the stein is a dancing couple - the man wears knickers and a long coat while the lady has an updo of hair and wears an ankle length dress. They are surrounded by a fancy scrolled design. On either side of the couple is a single cherub. The left cherub plays cymbals or tamborine while the right cherub plays a triangle. All the figures as well as the scrolled portion are raised. The bottom of the stein features raised flower and criss-cross design. The pewter top has a fancy leaf design for the thumb to open the lid. T are fancy leaves and scrolls on the pewter lid. I find no cracks, chips or problems with the stein. The inside bottom has some crazing indicative of the age. It has brilliant color.A really great piece for any stein collection!
