Offered is this lovely old porcelain china inkwell and pumice sander jar with hand painted tray, made in Germany in the late 1800s. Marked KPM, this set appears to have been made by the Krister Porcelain Manufactory in Waldenburg , Silesia . The under tray features hand painted flowers with two wells to hold the ink jar and sander. It is made of heavy gauge porcelain, similar to Old Paris, but is beautifully translucent. Besides the floral decoration, the tray also features gold trim and a pastel pink rim that appears to once have been gilded. The tray measures 7 by 9.5 inches (18 by 24 cm). The jars have unglazed bases that rest inside the wells on the tray. They are decorated with gold trim and pastel pink rims that have lost most of their gilt. The lids have finials in the shape of cherries on a stem with foliage. The jars measure 2.75 inches tall (7 cm). The sander jar has a fixed perforated top under the lid. Apparently it was used for pumice sand, which would have been sprinkled over a completed document to soak up surplus ink. The excess sand could then be returned to the jar. The ink jar has a hole under the lid which may once have contained a removable ink well, which we do not have. This set is in very good condition for its years. No chips or cracks. Gold trim shows considerable wear, no doubt from years of use and cleaning. Payment by check, money order or PayPal, for credit cards and electronic checks. U.S. buyers to pay $14 for shipping, insurance included. International buyers to pay actual shipping costs. Happy to combine orders to reduce shipping. Questions welcomed. Thanks for looking.
