This beautiful handmade porcelain pair of dogs came from the porcelain factory Aelteste (oldest) Volkstedter Unterweissbach. The stylized 'AVP' in a 'U' was used from 1899 -1909. This figurine is numbered M.89. This is original (not a repro). The dogs are elegant and graceful and are in excellent condition. No scratches or marks, no repairs or chips and a beautiful addition for collectors of the highest quality porcelain and for lovers of these dogs The Borzoi dog breed is an old breed, most likely brought to Russia from Arabia in the early 1600s. There, they were adopted as the dog-of-choice for nobility and crossed with sheepdogs to be used as brave and fierce wolf hunters. The Borzoi’s popularity spread to Europe – they became favorites of Queen Victoria and the British aristocracy. There the breed became more docile, as they were used more often for companionship than hunting. “Borzii” is a Russian word meaning “swift”. These dogs are excellent at lure coursing, sighting, and hunting. The measurements are 9" long X 5" wide X 6" high . Shipping cost $12.95 by USPS Priority Mail with delivery confirmation andtracking.
