Early, 1st model of the post WWII Knights Cross approved by the West German government and made by the firm of Steinhauer & Lueck. Constructed with IRON CENTER (magnetic) as specified in the July 1957 manufacturing regulations. Perfect paint to center, silver-plated frame showing some minor age patina in spots. No markings to frame. Nice high quality 3-piece construction with 100% original full length ribbon. Nice original 1960's ribbon that does not glow under UV. Came directly out of Germany, seller indicated that this was owned by a veteran U-Boat engineer, Heinrich Dammeier, U-270, original award date August 12, 1944 (no documents provided). 1st model post war Knights Crosses are very rare (made between 1957 into early 1970s). These are distinguished from the 2nd style post war knights cross (mid 1970s to today) by the larger oak leaf sprig center. What you see exclusively for sale is the 2nd model 1957 Knights Cross which continues to be made even today (with a non-magnetic center). T is a lot of misinformation out t stating that S&L was the only authorized maker for post WWII orders and badges. Wilhelm Deumer also manufactured post WWII iron crosses and badges and along with S&L were considered the main manufacturers of M1957 awards.
