This is a Luftwaffe WWII German aviator radio operator/gunner badge. The obverse features an eagle with lightning bolts in its talons over a wreath of oak leaves. This is a qualification badge introduced at the beginning of WWII for Luftwaffe bomber and transport aircraft crewmen. The wreath is silver/gray and the eagle is blackened. Much of the silver finish in the wreath has disappeared. The pin/clasp and hook have been changed from the original, which may have been broken. This badge is 53.5 mm tall and 39 mm wide. It weighs 29.6 grams. It would be an attractive addition to any collection or could be used on a reinactor's uniform. It is marked in the center of the reverse of the eagle with W. DEUMER and LUDENSCHEID on 2 lines. This is a known maker of Luftwaffe badges. The national emblem is intact but not completely shown. It is the open variety and is slightly distorted from the heat of soldering on a different pin/clasp. The very top of the wreath is also slightly heat distorted.I am offering this nice badge as a reproduction with a low starting price and no reserve because I have been unable to verify its authenticity. It looks to be either a reproduction or an original badge that was damaged by the clasp change. You will have to judge it for yourself. The detail, especially on the eagle and lightning bolts, is quite good. read more
