This German mess dress uniform is somewhat of a mystery. The owner was obviously a decorated veteran of World War 2 as evidenced by the multiple medal loops on the chest. However, I'm not sure if this is a wartime uniform, a wartime uniform altered for Bundeswehr use, or an earlyBundeswehr uniform using original materials; hopefully the pictures will help you decide. The uniform itself is made of field gray wool with mouse gray piping around the collar. The buttons are wartime pebbled aluminum buttons. There is no evidence of either a removed sleeve or breast eagle that I have been able to locate. You can see where shoulder boards were once present but have since been removed. The lining is gray rayon with no evidence of a tailor's label ever being present. For what it's worth, this came from a World War 2 veteran's estate with a wartime German officer's uniform coat (which I no longer own) but I don't have any information on how he acquired either uniform.The uniform is in very good condition showing normal wear for its age. I've tried to photograph any significant issues but just understand that there are minor stains, worn spots, etc. There is no mothing to the wool but the lining does have a few small holes and there are some places where seams have come unstitched.International Bidders : For the protection of both buyer and
