This original pre-WWII German 84/98 bayonet is in very good condition. It is rare in that only approximately 10,000 total were made in the middle 1930s to evade the restrictions on making armaments in Germany that were imposed by the Allied side of France, England and the U.S and other countries at the Versailles Treaty meeting after WWI. Many of these bayonets were exported by Germany to Spain during the Spanish Civil War just prior to WWII. This bayonet has the script letter "o" on the lower flat of the blade just forward of the crossguard which is know as the "Ostmark" indicating it is a sneak bayonet made for Germany in Austria. This bayonet is referenced in Janzens Notebook on BAYONETS, page 98, bayonets 1 and 2.The 9 3/4 inch bright blade is in very good condition. The right ricasso of the blade is stamped with the 6 digit serial number 250248. The script letter "o" is stamped on the lower flat of the blade The bright steel cross guard and pommel are in very good condition.The wood grips held by two screw bolts with slotted nuts are in good condition with a few dents and cuts from use. There are no waffenamts stamps on the metal under the grips which were common on these bayonets made after serial number 255000.The bayonet catch mechanism with spring and press stud is in good operating order.The blued metal scabbard for this read more
