German Prussian Sword and MATCHING NUMBERS scabbard from 1872. This sword was preserved with gun grease and is in completely original condition. This sword was made to arm a Prussian regiment that was raised in 1872 right after the end of the 1870/1871 Franco-Prussian War. The regiment was established at a time when the German Army was building up. Approximately twelve artillery regiments were formed in 1872. MARKS: Crown logo with "W" underneath, makers mark on sword, and also on scabbard, t is a small N and what looks like this "". MATCHING scabbard and sword numbers, 24.A2.25. T is a makers mark on the sword and scabbard, it looks like a zigzag M, see photo. The grip is nicely USED and COMPLETELY intact, no peeling or crumbling. This sword was actually used. ALL ORIGINAL!!! No one ever tried to clean it, it was preserved, a big difference. Scabbard has original battlefield bend and repair in it, shown in photo, which still lets the sword EASILY slide in, no friction. This is a great rare find and a great addition to a collection.
