German Regimental Enamel Glass Decanter + Heckart Moser Description - An absolutely amazing work of enamel painting on glass. At least the quality of any Heckart or Moser enameling that I have ever seen. This set consists of a decanter with twelve shot sized glasses, each with vividly painted enamel heraldic crests. The decanter is signed on the bottom by the artist and reads "G. Werner Heidelberg". I'm convinced it's a German Regimental set. The decanter and each of the glasses is engraved with what I believe are the names of various officers and their regiment name, and each is dated. The decanter is dated 1896. I have attempted in the eighth photo to show the engraved markings on the back of the decanter, with only limited success. When I took the shot straight on to the engraving, I lost it all in the back of the enameling. When I took it at a downward angle, as in this shot, it appears to be engraved over the bottom edge of the piece. It isn't. It's engraved at approximately the same level as the middle of the front enameling. The engraving reads "R. v. Lockstedt" on the first line and "H. Moennich" on the second line. I mention these names because I noticed on the glasses that t are always two names, and while the first name changes, the second name on each glass is "H. Moennich". Various of the shot glasses are dated 1896, 1896/97, and 1897. Of the twelve glasses, t are ten with separate crests. The eleventh and twelfth are duplicates of the tenth. None of the glasses have the same crest as the decanter. Size - The decanter is 10 1/2" to the top of the stopper and 3 5/8" in diameter at the base. Each of the glasses is just under 2" tall and a little over 1 1/4" in diameter. Estimated 6 pounds double boxed packed weight for shipping. Condition - Absolutely amazing condition. The glass is bright and clear, the enamels are bold and bright and undamaged. I will note that t is a thin gold band at the bottom and at the rim of each glass. The condition of these bands of gold varies from almost perfect on some glasses to almost completely worn away on others, and all points inbetween. It is my opinion that the wear to these bands has almost nothing to do with the appeal of this set. The enameled crests are in perfect condition on each glass. Marks - The decanter is signed on the bottom "G. Werner Heidelberg". Most of the glasses are also signed on the bottom with initials "G.W.H.". It is possible that the correct name is "C. Werner" instead of "G. Werner". CLICK to visit our EBAY STORE As always, SATISFACTION AND AUTHENTICITY ARE ABSOLUTELY GUARANTEED. SO BID CONFIDENTLY.
