This porcelain, German regimental beer stein, 1891-1894, has a lithophane of Bavarian woman. It is of the 2nd Baden Grenade Regiment in Mannheim, Germany. It belonged to Gefreiter (Rifleman) Fichler whose name is at the top of the stein. It is handpainted. Around the monogram in German, loosely translated, says "On the Rhein, under the Neckar (river) we serve true for the Kaiser as Grenadier (type of bomb thrower)". Listed on the sides are the names of 13 soldiers. They are: Hocker; Krug; Koch; Mery; Senbert; Schneider; Becker; Schnhunadler?; Back; Braun and Flicker. Each has the rank before the last name. On the inside of the bottom are the words "Herm. Klein & Cie (son), Mannheim" the stein manufacturer. The pewter lid is ornate with a woman's face on the thumb rest. It is firmly attached. CONDITION: It is in excellent condition. There are no chips, cracks or blemishes. The lid has normal age oxidation.
