Offered is a very rare item from WW1 German / US history . This Iron Cross medallion was cast to commemorate the historic and heroic docking of the German submarine "Deutschland" in the harbor of Baltimore Maryland in 1916 by Captain Paul Konig . At a time when American where shocked to see the U boat arrive , thus being detained by Baltimore authorities , then released and returning to a heros welcome . Shortly after the sub was dismanted and the iron ballast being used to strike the limited medalions . It measures aprox 3" x 3" , has some weight to it due to its material . In the center on one side is a bronze coin with the image of the captain and on the other the sub itself. Was surprised to see a decent amount of info and photos on the net reguarding the specific subject of July 9 1916 . Old but in near perfect cond , no defects to speak of . ******************US Sales only unless approved******************PAYPAL within 3 days of auction end*******************Sale is Final, please ask************************************************************
