Fine condition Civil War era German brass handled artillery short sword that has a 19” bright blade clearly marked P.D.L. on one side and a crowned proof mark on the other. This good looking piece is nicely unit marked on the cross guard and on the scabbard throat with several other small German fracture proof marks. Blade is in fine condition, never sharpened with a nice tip. All brass cross guard and grip have a good looking old patina and sharp clear German military proof marks. Correct and unit marked scabbard is also fine condition with brass tips on each end of the leather scabbard. Leather is soft and supple with tight stitching and fits fine, no shrinkage. Brass tips have a nice old patina and a sharp clear crowned L proof mark. Tough to find these 1800’s made German artillery short swords with nice clear markings and a good looking original scabbard.
