This 1/32 scale ( 54MM ) truck is a conversion using parts from several diecast toy vehicles. The inspiration for this conversion comes from a photo taken on the beach at Dunkirk immediately after the British evacuation ended. A group of German soldiers are examining a line of abandoned "Austin Tilly" light utility trucks. Hundreds such trucks were taken into German service after the fall of France. This truck represents a WWII German Army light utility truck and trailer serving on any European battlefield. The truck has rolling rubber tires. The trailer has solid cast metal wheels. The trailer body is made from the cargo bed pirated from a 1/32 scale diecast toy pickup truck. The trailer frame and chassis are cast metal. The cargo gate opens and closes. The trucks doors and hood open as well. On the truck I removed its original cargo bed and substituted a bed I cast in metal from the parts of an Opel Blitz 1/35 scale kit. I added numerous accessories to both the truck and trailer. The truck cargo includes ammo boxes, fuel drums, and a set of oxyacetelene welding tanks on a hand cart, all cast in metal. Hung from a pannier on the side is a pair of Jerry cans, along with a spare tire mounted to the side of the cargo bed and a bedroll hung by straps. The trailer cargo includes ammo boxes and a large duffel also cast in metal and a cargo cover frame fashioned from wire mesh. Rounding out the truck is the seated German trooper with MP40. All were primered then the vehicles painted in panzer gray with tactical marks and license plates and weathered and the cargo and trooper painted to suit any European front. Note the ruler. It illustrates what a great match this would make to a 21st Century or Forces of Valor truck convoy.This is one of many such conversions I will offer in the next weeks as I thin my collection ( at my wife's insistence ). Most will be either one - off unique items or in some cases one of two similar conversions I've done.In this case this is a duplicate of only one other such truck which will remain in my collection.Feel free to ask questions or comment. Enjoy.IN RESPONSE TO SEVERAL QUESTIONS: These trucks are not replicas ofspecific or actual vehicles. During WW2 the German military made use ofevery type of vehicle it could find, whether captured on the battlefield, manufactured in Germany or any of the occupied territories, civilian or military manufacture. A couple examples I've read of: 1) At Stalingrad the German Sixth Army had twenty-seven different models of cargo truck in its inventory, vastly complicating its motor-pool maintenance issues. ( Antony Beevor, "STALINGRAD" ) 2) At the time of the invasion of the Soviet Union, one of every eight 'soft-skin' vehicles in the German transport fleet had been captured from the British and French the prior year when France was conquered and Britain driven from the mainland. ( WW2 Documentary "WWII in Color" ). So, this gives the modeler a LOT of freedom on such topics. Almost ANY vehicle of the right time frame can be 'kit-bashed' to make a vehicle suited to the German Army. read more
