This is a Very Old yet exceptionally well preserved model 1898 Bayonet. It was made in Germany by Simson & Co. SHUL and since it bears a Peruvian Coat of Arms on the butt end of the Pommel, it was apparently an export Bayonet. The blade is nicely marked for the maker and t is a serial number 25117 stamped on the hooked guard. A non-matching serial number is stamped on the scabbard (60652). The blade is 20-1/2 inches long and in spectacular condition. It features the reinforced tip design known as the "Humpback". The finish is nice and bright and as good as you can hope to find. The two piece wood grips are also in great shape and are nice and tight. The bayonet lock is nice and smooth. Overall bayonet is 26 inches long and out of the scabbard, weighs exactly one pound. The leather and steel scabbard is 21-1/4 inches long and weighs an additional 5 ounces. It is in nice condition with well preserved stitching. T is light rust on the tip and throat but not bad. Overall assembly is 26-5/8 inches long. This is a RARE piece of Military history that you'll surely want to add to your collection. Don't wait for a nicer one, you aren't apt to find one!
