16 inches x 11 inches x 9 inches, wood chest retaining 95% dark field grey finish. Hinged lid presents stenciled inscription indicating chest originally contained fuses for very large caliber railway artillery shells of 28cm, a size of artillery used in only the largest guns in the German WWII artillery, these guns were mounted on railway cars and moved by rail. Chest complete with two (2) front metal latches, front official "Heeres - Munition" stamp, two (2) metal side handles, and was found in a farmer's barn in France in the 1960's. This wood chest is a very rare Railway Artillery ordnance object, excellent for display, very good condition. Object is 100% original pre1945 manufacture in every respect.
