Now 's a real neat item indeed! A super nice Confederate large 1 3/4 inch Artillery Grape-shot Ball with noticable mold seam and sprue area. The Letter doesn't specify whether US or CS but simply states US/CS, it does however note the mold seam and casting flaws. These are characteristics of CS manufacture. Furthermore, this piece came from a famous bar none museum collection! The owner the late John Plank Geiselman spent his life amassing items from the old early collections such as Danner, Rosensteel, Zeigler, etc....He was also fortunate to acquire items directly from many of the Battlefield land owners. Plus he dug many of his own items long ago. Mr. Geiselman grew up in the Gettysburg area and lived t throughout his life. His love for the area never waned and he built up one of the most extensive Gettysburg collections known. Many of the items were one of a kind and some you only seen in books. This is by far the best and most impressive Gettysburg collection to be offered today. Mr. Geiselman was very meticulous and inventoried each piece on a master list. Most of the items were labeled individually as well. Often the information contained the location of recovery, and other notable history. The Provenance is simply the best you can get!
