This listing represents a first for me. Here you have an early World War II US Army 2nd Division Shoulder Patch. The Indian Head Division was a hard fighting, highly decorated outfit in both World Wars. The shoulder patch is machine embroidered with the head facing to the left. The 2nd Division was actually formed in France in the fall of 1917 from soldiers who had shipped over individually and not in units. The colors were chose by the division commander to identify equipment while overseas. The star and indian head were chosen for the American Origin of the Division. The Marine Units shipped to France in WWI fell under the command of the 2nd Division. I have unpublished photos of the Marines in the Victory Parade in Washington, DC and they have 2nd Division Shoulder Patches. The Indian Head Division was a hard fighting outfit in both World Wars. In WWI the 2nd participated in the Aisne, Aisne – Marne, St. Mihiel, Meuse – Argonne, and Ile de France 1918 Campaigns. The division was decorated with the French Croix de Guerre with Palm with Streamer embroidered Aisne – Marne. The 2nd was awarded with a second Cross de Guerre with Palm with streamer embroidered Meuse – Argonne. They also received the French Croix de Guerre Fourragere.
