GID TANNER & RILEY PUCKETT & The Skillet Lickers THE BASICS ARTIST : GID TANNER LABEL : Columbia 15108 SELECTIONS : Old Joe Clark Dance All Night With A Bottle In Your Hand RECORD DATE : November 3, 1926 CONDITION : E In terms of number of recordings, Gid Tanner and His Skillet Lickers was the most prolific of the Georgia string bands of the 1920s and 30s. They typified the unrestrained Georgia string band style, featuring comedy skits, fiddle breakdowns, and the hillbilly showman personality of Gid Tanner. The band featured Tanner and Clayton McMichen on fiddle, Fate Norris on banjo, and Riley Puckett on guitar. This one is from a session on November 3, 1926 and is a pair of great songs. The song “Dance All Night With A Bottle In Your Hand” is a great prohibition/country tune with an air of abandon. On the other side is a version of the familiar tune “Old Joe Clark.” This is a 15108-D and is one of those 'new process' recordings so it started off with a pretty clean surface LISTEN TO PART OF THIS RECORD ! CONDITION: E Records can be combined for postage savings. IN THE US – one 78 costs $7, but 2-7 will travel for only $10.50 flat rate ! ODD RECORDS ARE A REEL GEORGE SPECIALTY!
