The WAGNER HARDWARE COMPANY in Carlisle, Pennsylvania supplied these attractive clocks to better customers as an incentive for their continued business. The clean and original dial on this clock bears the words "THE WAGNER HARDWARE CO. CARLISLE, PA.". There is a 1902 Patent Date on the back of the case. The Cumberland County Historical Society (located in Carlisle) includes a letter from Mr. M.N. Wagner, proprietor of the hardware company, written in 1904 to the Carlisle Indian School. Evidently the school was a customer of the Wagner Company. This was the residential school established by the United States Government in Carlisle, Pa. to teach and train American Indian children including the now famous Jim Thorpe whose later prowess in football made him a legend in his time. The clock retains much of its original gilding. It has NOT been painted over with what some call "radiator paint" as is the case with so many other metal clocks. The dial and its advertising is clean and although the red ink wording has faded somewhat, it is still quite legible. The 30 hour clock mechanism ticks stoutly without stopping. Overall, this is a 'winner' both for collectors of gold-gilded figural clocks and also for those who prize advertising collectibles. Priced low enough to meet the pocketbook of most buyers. A flat shipping fee of $17.00 will bring the clock to anyone living within the Continental United States.
