Gilt Bronze Mythology Clock VENUS HERMES Empire 1820 NR This special Clock is made in France around 1820, the French Empire period. On top of the case a desk with a blank sheet, the thinking young woman beside, below the dial a relief with the messenger Hermes showing a blanc sheet to Venus. At the left side an empty chair with a book scroll. All very symbolic.... XL gilt bronze case, the woman with bounded hair and fine dressed, the chair with crowned eagles, lion heads and claw feet. The relief below the dial with oracle fire and scrolls, flying Hermes and winged Venus. The lower front relief with four winged playing cherub with vases, wreathes, garlands and acanthus rim. Four fine engraved feet. The gilt and parts in perfect condition, view all the pictures. White porcelain enamel dial with Roman numerals and hands with eyes. Perfect condition. Early French clockwork with pendulum on silk suspension, about 8 days going work, and the 1/1 and 1/2 hours striking on a silvered bell. Good running and striking condition. Wind-up key included. Measurements : at base 17.5" x 6.25", high 20.5", dial diam. 4.75" incl. the gilt rim. Overall in good condition. Winning bidder pays $ 144.00 SHI, insured priority airmail, worldwide shipping.
