Up for auction is a lacquer-and-gilt-on-wood depiction of a standing Buddha, mid- to late-Edo Period ca. 1775.
Yosegi-zukuri joined-block construction, inset crystal eyes, lovely patination, a beautiful face, and unfortunate loss to the nose and both hands. The accompanying wooden dais is not original to the Buddha figure. An excellent reference piece for serious collectors.
