GLADDING McBEAN TROPICAL VINTAGE SQUARE BOWL This is marked with the large early "GMcB" stamp. This shape # 177 is shown in a 1932 catalog of semi-porcelain pottery on page 69 of Elliot-Bishop's reference Franciscan, Catalina, and Other Gladding, McBean Wares. It has been said some of the semi-porcelain shapes were also used for the Tropico Garden Pottery line. I think this piece has a Malinite clay body, Iâe(tm)m not sure. You can barely see the darkness of the clay body under the white glaze. It has the colors used in the Cielito Ware Line. It possibly could be a #120 square bowl. Condition: It is clean with a White Gloss interior and a Turquoise or Glacial Blue exterior. T are no stains, cracks, scratches, chips or other damage. T is a small area in the inside corner w it looks like the glaze didnâe(tm)t take during the manufacturing process about 1/8âe oval. T is a tiny little flea bite on the top edge near the corner less than 1/16âe and 1 pin pop on one side about 3/8âe down from the top. The width across the square top is 8 1⁄2âe inches wide. The height is 3 3⁄4âe inches. The width across the base is 5 5/8âe It weighs about 2 pounds 6 ounces unpacked. This is similar to the orange one that sold last week. A nice piece for your collection. Made in USA by Gladding McBean, Catalina Pottery, Franciscan. Please read more
