Glendale, Hermosa Beach, California 1875 - 1962 This is a beautiful GLADDING MCBEAN ART TILE . The design is shown in Norman Karlson's book, The Encyclopedia of American Art Tiles, Region 6, Southern California, on pg. 199. I believe this tile dates from the 1930's. GMB was an early California company and long-lived, purchasing several other CA tile companies including Tropico, American Encaustic Tiling Co., and Catalina Pottery. The design of this tile is very similar to designs used at Catalina Pottery. THIS IS A GORGEOUS DECORATED TEA TILE. The colors are very bright and deep. (In fact, the colors are a bit darker and richer than they appear in my photos, especially the yellow.) This is a 6" x 6" tea tile that could be used as a trivet. It still has its original felt backing intact, and I did not want to remove it to see if the tile is signed. This has a beautiful glossy glaze, without wear. T is a small chip at one corner (greatly magnified in my photo!) and a couple of tiny fleabites, very minor. NO cracks, hairlines, or repairs. SUPER CLEAN ORIGINAL CONDITION!
