Painting of Berchtesgaden Hiltler's Hideout 2618
's what it says on the label on the back of the picture, in German: Erzeugnis derOberbayerischen Glasbildkunst U. Riemer-Zöllner Dachau, Am Heidweg 16, Fernruf 548 Entwurf: Kunstmaler Herm. Riemer Genehmigter Verkaufspreis: RM 40 Which is to say: Product of the Upper Bavarian glass picture art U-Riemer Zöllner Dachau, Am Heidweg 16, Phone 548 Draft painter Herm. Riemer Authorized Retail Price: RM 40 I'm sure you saw the word Dachau in t painting could have been made in Dachau before any of the Nazi crap got off the ground. How could I tell? I Googled the address, which is indeed near the horrible camp, but actually on a residential street across town. I kind of doubt they let Jewish slaves buzz across town to make Kitch either. How about the names? None of them lead anyw traceable by me. The next thing? The price is given in Reichsmarks (RM). They were in use from 1923 to 1948, so that is the viable range of creation. The whack thing is however the hand written notation above the label on the back which reads, "Hitler's Hide-out Eidelwiess flower-" In English. That's the little white flower over the shield & the Berghof, which was actually Hitler's crib, which is not in the picture, but up the hill out of view. The painting, in reverse on the underside of the glass, depicts the most famous view of Berchtesgaden, regardless of Hitler. For all intents & purposes this rather old souvenir is nothing more than that & some joker wrote the thing about Hitler on it at some time from 1938 when the Berghof was built to yesterday when my German friend picked it up at a yard sale! So, the bottom line is I have no concrete provenance, but the date range on this art is between 1923 and 1948 based solely on the life of the Reichsmark price. That makes it definitely vintage. The comment about Hitler is almost useless, but makes it definitely creepy. Tfore, Vintage + Creepy = COLLECTIBLE!
