GN GREAT NORTHERN 4-8-4 Class S-1 NORTHERN was made in Japan by Tenshodo. It has an open-frame motor and no backhead. I have owned this engine for over thirty years. It has been carefully stored, wrapped in plastic bags. In testing for this auction, the first time I have tried to run this engine, it ran in forward and reverse. However, in both directions, it did need a little human-hand help to start moving and it also ran jerkily. There was no shorting, however. After that length of inactivity, the results are not surprising. But the buyer should know that some shop time will be needed if this locomotive is to be operated. As rates vary by distance, the actual shipping cost will be accurately and fairly determined upon the close of the auction.
