LXV.—FROM JULY TO DECEMBER, 1862 Here is a bound original Civil War era 6 month volume of Godey's Lady's Book and Magazine , 618 pages in all, the six monthly issues for July to December, 1862. These are absolutely loaded with illustrations, patterns, art, fashion, essays, poetry, music! The contents are fascinating...Godey's was famous for it's high-quality writing and "embellishments." Binding is very rough, but the contents are quite nice. The 6 monthly hand-colored "steel fashion-plates" are missing from this volume, but there are many color and black-and-white engravings as well as hundreds of single page illustrations, fashion descriptions, patterns & instructions for needle crafts, stories, articles, sheet music, poetry, recipes, and home-making tips. Some of the fascinating titles I found in a quick browse of the contents were: A Counterpane Knitted in Diamonds Visit to the Dead Sea Eastern Rambles and Reminiscences. Egypt. Alexandria. The Art of Vitro-Manie Biarritz Shawl Visit by the Prince of Wales to Hebron and the Cave of Machpelah.
