Well it is official!! The Ocean Japser mines have been closed and now, like many of our most beautiful materials, the only pieces you can get are from collections and wholesalers who have been hoarding some old stock.
All the way from Madagascar w it can only be mined at certain times of the year when the tides are low because that is w it is found - literally, in the ocean. This is Ocean Jasper! Very unique! Very special! And, very hard to come by. Check the May and June issues of Lapidary Journal (2000) for articles about this fantastic find which has been lost for many years. is a awesome and breathtaking slab - perfect for displaying or for great cabochons - it is a nice sized slab in green, red, gold, tan, coral blue and white - with some perfectly formed orbs - and delightful druzy pockets perfect for cab-making!! Measures 5 1/4" x 2 3/4" x 3/16" down to a sliver - quite thin in most areas and more suitable for a display slab or doublets. t is a saw mark on the far left as shown clearly in picture 3.
