GOEBEL - WEST GERMANY "SAINT FRANCIS" A tall Goebel figurine depicting Saint Francis standing with a baby deer and holding a bunny and a bird. This piece is beautifully sculpted by Goebel master artist Reinhold Unger , his name is incised in the back of the base. Unger was also the artist for many of the popular Hummel figurines of endearing children. The St Francis figurine has rich colors and a matte finish. Well marked on the bottom with a blue stamp of a stylized bee within a large "V" and the words "W. GERMANY". This mark is from the 1960's. Incised in the porcelain on the bottom: "HR 19". Incised on the back of the base is the artist's name "Unger". T are two foil stickers on this piece. Silver and blue foil sticker: "SACRART. Gold and black foil sticker: "GOLDEN CROWN E&R WESTERN GERMANY". Good condition. Figurine is as-found, dusty and with candle wax spatter on the front. No chips or repairs. On the bottom of the base in the glossy glaze area, t is a craze-crack in the glaze only (not the porcelain). Crack does not extend to the matte glaze of the figurine. St Francis is 11" tall.
