Up for bid is "THE GOLDEN CRESCENT", signed by both author, Bob Brister and illustrator, John Cowan. This first edition, first printing is hand bound in full brown leather by A.V. Emmott Bookbinders. It features some great stories about hunting and fishing along the Louisiana/Texas/Mexico Gulf Coast. The stories are highlighted by Cowan's outstanding artwork--30 full-color plates in all, each with protected by a tissue guard. The book is in Very Good condition. There a few tiny nicked/rubbed spots to the leather binding, and a crease at the head and tail of the spine (which I'm guessing occurred during production). Contents, including both text and artwork, are in excellent shape--clean and bright--essentially flawless. Aside from the signatures of Brister and Cowan, the interior of the book is unmarked. Near the bottom of the front cover, the name of the book's previous owner (John Henry Kirby III) has been typeset in small gold letters. [A brief note on the provenance: This book was purchased from the estate of John Henry Kirby III. His grandfather, John Henry Kirby, was at around the turn of the century, one of the two or three wealthiest men in the state of Texas. He made his fortune in lumber, but also went on to form the Kirby Petroleum Company. He would become known by his peers as "The Father of Industrial Texas".] Shipping read more
