There were three ALMOST identical decanters made by Jim Beam in 1969. They have come to be known as the Hoover Dam decanter, because the common generic version of this bottle was a virtual list of all the things to do in Las Vegas -- see Hoover Dam, Lake Mead, etc. Thousands and thousands were made, so that collectors almost didn't notice when the graphics were changed and a very very small production run was made for two downtown casinos -- the Golden Gate and the Golden Nugget. The rather common, average 1969 generic version of this Las Vegas casino decanter became an immediate collector's hit when it was issued in very limited numbers for two local casinos -- the Golden Gate and the Golden Nugget. Made by Regal China, it is 12 1/2 inches high. This one, for the Golden Nugget Casino, has the casino name embossed in gold on the front of the bottle. The casino name is also on the reverse, surrounded by mountains. This sold out in weeks, but the casino never ordered a different bottle from the Jim Beam Company or anyone else. This is the ONLY DECANTER TO EVER BEAR THE NAME " GOLDEN NUGGET ". The casino itself was built in 1940 as a replica of the famous Golden Nugget, a landmark in the days of San Francisco's Barbary Coast. No chips, cracks or liquor, but as with any decanter this age, the cork may need a little TLC.
