Up for auction or purchase is a Keystone Manufacturing Company Sand Tee Mold . Not sure if this is considered a Bakelite Sand Tee Mold. The Keystone Manufacturing Company was based in Chicago and was a division of or became International Harvestor. This item dates back to the 1800's and/or into the early 1900's as rubber and wooden tees became the norm at the turn of the century. This item is very rare. The history on this item and previous similar items sold is very sparse. I did come across a few similar items that sold at auction in the early 2000's for 300-380 British pounds. About $500+ US$. Typically when it comes to vintage-antique items and certain artwork it is a good thing when it is hard to find information or items similar because that means the item is more rare or there were fewer produced and not many still in circulation. The sand tee mold was used to form a mound of sand into a uniform shape so the golf ball could rest on top when teeing off with a brassie or spoon but I'm sure also used for a niblick or mashie. Typically you would find a box of sand on the teeing surface and some water to wet it. You would scoop the wet sand with this to form the mold and place on the ground. Caddies also might carry a sashel of sand with this ready to form a sand tee for their golfer. This item is authentic and not a reproduction.
