A late 19th century brass and orange bodied four draw refracting telescope with lens cap and eye - piece dust slide, signed near the eye - piece in script " Pinkham and Smith Company, Boston. Power 30x. Made in France ". It measures 36" long ( 92cm ) extended out and 10.5" ( 27cm ) closed and the main lens measures almost 2" across ( 48mm ). It has no chips or scratches and viewing is very clear. The folding brass stand gives a height of 15" ( 38cm ) and the telescope is held in place by a hinged clasp. The walnut veneered case has four pad feet and a white key plate ( lock but no key ). Pinkham and Smith were opticians in Boston, Mass' and were famous for the manufacturing of hand ground soft focus photographic lenses. This telescope would be a good addition to any collection.
