GORGEOUS ANTIQUE BISQUE TODDLER KESTNER CHARACTER child DOLL 257 33” (84CM) enormous JDK .257 Germany O.M. Character, blue-sleep eyes. KESTNER, king of dollmakers. He first held the monopoly on papier mache dolls from German government for more than 25 years, and employed over three-quarters of the total population in and around Waltershausen, prior coming to bisque dolls. The doll industry was of utmost importance in Germany , and KESTNER was the head of this industry, thus he was bestowed the nickname KING KESTNER. He was one of the few firms that produced complete dolls with all their parts. The company also supplied doll heads to several other doll manufacturers. The firm also used a wide assortment of markings, including its name , initials, various mold numbers, and a series of letters. The bisque dolls produced are of high quality, and characters desired among collectors of antique dolls. HEAD: Kestner circa 1895.
